Can I refreeze thawed items?
Do not judge a frozen product only by whether it feels soft on the outside. The outer layers can soften while the centre remains frozen. A product is fully defrosted only when it has thawed all the way through, including the thickest or densest part.
Always follow the storage and defrosting instructions on the packaging. The Food Standards Agency advises defrosting food in the fridge, keeping the fridge between 0°C and 5°C, and using food within 24 hours after it has fully defrosted.
If food has fully defrosted, the safest general rule is not to refreeze it uncooked. Cook it thoroughly first; it can then be frozen again once and reheated only once. If you are uncertain how long food has been outside safe refrigeration, do not refreeze or eat it.
For a Greek Market delivery, softness to the touch alone does not prove that the product has fully defrosted. Check the centre of the product and follow its packaging instructions. If you are concerned, photograph the product and packaging immediately and contact Customer Services on the day of delivery before discarding or refreezing it.
